The Learning Center provides access to tools and resources to meet ISTE standards. Collaborations allow for content area teachers to receive support in integrating meaningful technology projects as well as to plan and evaluate.

CLASSROOM ACTIVITy idea

Technology Through Time

 

Materials:

 - objects (or photos of it) - pencil, typewriter, rock adze

- small 4x5 photos of mobile phone, computer, camera, Netflix or youtube video logo,

   headphones, Uber logo, social media posts or Snapchat logo 

Lesson:

1.  Put students into groups of 3-4

2.  Start with a Google Doc then go back in time to show ways to complete the same 

     task.  In the 1990's, typewriters did the job.  Prior to that, pencils and in ancient

     times in old Hawai'i, Hawaiians used rock adzes to carve petroglyphs into rocks.

3.  Each group chooses a random photo and must guess the origins of the modern day        conveneniece they chose for three time periods.  

4.  Student fill in their guesses on a Google Form that asks:

          What is your technological advance?

          How was this accomplished in the 1990's?

          How was this accomplished in the 1940's?

          How was this accomplished in the 1900's?

5.  Teacher shares results and goes over with large group.

6.  Students research for correct answers and provide their references on a new 

     Google Form.
